Rani Carson

Rani Carson began painting in Puerto Rico, and then studied with New York painter, Herman Rose. She lived in Paris before earning her MFA at Brooklyn College. She was Professor of Art at Suffolk County Community College, curated the Campus Art Gallery, and also taught at the Edna Manley College for the Visual Arts in Kingston, Jamaica.

Her paintings have been shown in annual and biennial exhibitions at the National Gallery of Jamaica, the Meguro Museum of Art in Tokyo, the Brooklyn Museum, the Vorpal Gallery in San Francisco. In New York City, she has exhibited at the Allan Stone Gallery, participated in several Art Against Apartheid exhibitions, and also showed her work at two artist-run galleries: the Prince Street Gallery and the First Street Gallery. An article about her work appeared in the Winter/Watercolor edition of American Artist (2003).

Whether in her studio in Oracabessa, Jamaica or in Riverhead, NY, she continues to explore the depth of her inspiration from Jamaica's Rasta community.
